Welcome to The Cancer Pod!
The Cancer Pod: Integrative Medicine Talk

Meet The Hosts

In short, we are two naturopathic doctors who know a lot about cancer care. Tina is the science-y one, and Leah is the #cancerinsider. We keep it light, informative, and useful with tips to overcome and surpass the challenges of cancer treatment.

Our origin story: As integrative oncology clinicians (aka naturopathic oncologists), we've each helped thousands of patients get through cancer treatment and beyond using integrative cancer treatment. We became friends through mutual projects, like creating the Textbook of Naturopathic Oncology, 1st edition (2020). Whenever we talked on the phone, the conversation would drift into some aspect of integrative medicine in oncology. Then, one of us would inevitably say, "It would be nice for people to know this in general," or "I wish this were common knowledge."

There we were, with a tremendous amount of practical information that could help people lessen their risk of side effects during treatment and their risk of recurrence afterward. For our entire careers, we've combined the best of natural medicine with the conventional medicine world through integrative cancer care at naturopathic cancer treatment centers and as natural cancer doctors. We have in-depth knowledge of integrative medicine, including nutrition counseling, dietary supplements, mind-body practices like yoga, massage, acupuncture, reiki, breathing exercises, guided imagery, and herbal therapy.

We also know that most people lack access to a trained natural cancer doctor, so those searching “oncology naturopath near me” were coming up with no one nearby. In the world of oncology, very few people are privy to reliable ways of improving their chances of responding to treatment, reducing their risk of recurrence, and living as well as possible for as long as possible using naturopathic medicine for cancer. So, we decided the best way to spill our knowledge, share our experience, and help as many people as possible access online holistic cancer treatment is through this podcast. Et voila! The Cancer Pod was born.

On the podcast, we discuss how complementary therapies and lifestyle counseling can help manage cancer treatment side effects like nausea, fatigue, neuropathy, lymphedema, hot flashes, insomnia, anxiety, and more. We cover how working with providers like a physical therapist, occupational therapist, or chiropractor or getting an oncology massage can help with pain management, muscle strength, balance, and endurance. We discuss the importance of exercise, sleep hygiene, stress management, emotional support, social support, and other mind-body practices during cancer care. We also delve into controversial topics like detoxification and help you find your own holistic oncologist

Ultimately, we aim to make our knowledge and experience from practicing available to you so you can help yourself or your loved one wherever they may be along the cancer continuum.
